Tips in Preparing for the Philippine Physical Therapy Licensure Exam Part 2

Last time we end up with what book to read after reading the Gross Anatomy Book..I would suggest to read the Kinesiology book starting with the less complicated of the two which is kinesiology by Brunnstrom followed by Norkin. Why Kinesiology?Well after you have laid the foundation of Gross Anatomy, It's time for you to apply it and that Kinesiology, "Applied Anatomy", the study of movements in the human body. Now, start with Brunnstrom because this book is easy to digest and it will also review a bit of gross anatomy.

After reading Brunnstrom then you must read Norkin especially the Back and Spine for it is well discussed and explained. Knowing that then you wont need to read the back and Spine of Brunnstrom. You need to compare the 2 authors because they will differ in some aspects especially on the values on certain areas which you need to find out for yourself. And there are certain topics which where not discuss by Brunnstrom but being discussed by Norkin.

For Both books I would say you could finish this in 2 weeks. I did it before, I dont know why i was able to do it but i guess it depends on how motivated and determined you are in achieving your goal in passing or topping the board exam. So i think it's really possible that you could also do it in 2 weeks.

After you have read this books then you are expected to know how the different parts of the body react or collaborate during movement. How are the force distributed in the body when standing. What muscles will contract at every joints in the lower extremity during a normal Gait pattern. The rationale behind using the contralateral side of the affected limb in using assistive device. It's not enough to know that your CI's or teacher told you that it's like that, you have to learn it from author's explaination.

It doesn't mean that you have to follow what im saying here but it's just a sort of guide so you will have a path to follow. If you prefer to start with Norkin, it's ok. If it suits you then go ahead. Whatever it is your comfortable with. I will discuss on Part 3 on the book to read after Kinesiology.

Review from Part 1 and 2

1. Read Gross Anatomy by Snell (Planes and Axis, Head and Neck, Upper and Lower Extremity, Back and Spine, The Thorax (including the Heart and Lungs) and Pelvis
Timetable: 2 weeks

2. Kinesiology (by Brunnstrom and Norkin)
Timetable: 2 Weeks
